Kee Thuan Chye has written numerous plays for stage and radio since the 1970s and is best-known for his political triptych 1984 Here and Now, The Big Purge and We Could **** You, Mr Birch. All three plays have been published by Marshall Cavendish and are available from Amazon.com.
1984 Here and Now is included in an anthology called Postcolonial Plays edited by Helen Gilbert and published by Routledge (United Kingdom).
The Big Purge was selected as the play to close Typhoon 4, a playreading festival organised by Yellow Earth Theatre in London in 2005.
We Could **** You, Mr Birch has been used for years as a text in several Malaysian universities. It was one of the plays invited for staging at the Festival of Asian Arts 1995 in Singapore.
His latest play, The Swordfish, Then the Concubine, premiered in Singapore on August 6, 2008, at the Singapore Theatre Festival. In 2006, it was adjudged among the Top 5 out of over 600 entries to the 21st International Playwriting Festival organised by Warehouse Theatre in the UK.
Kee is also an actor for stage, film and TV. He has been in the Hollywood films Entrapment and Anna and the King. He will soon be seen in the documentary Secrets of the Forbidden City on the History Channel.
He has also directed a dozen plays for the theatre.
